In case you haven’t heard, I’m hosting a contest for romance writers. Check out Friday’s post for the details.
Yesterday, I posted a hint for the contest. Here’s another. When you submit your entry, it doesn’t have to be a complete scene. Don’t stress yourself out trying to find a one page scene in your manuscript or cutting important parts of a scene to make it fit on a single page.* In fact, if you cut the end of the scene, I might be intrigued enough to want to read more. Hook me and you’ll have a great chance of winning.
*Note: Please include one to two double spaced pages.
Don’t forget. Tomorrow’s the last date to submit your entry.
Good luck!

Lynette,
ReplyDeleteThanks for inviting me to enter the contest! I have been looking for an online critique group, and this seems a perfect opportunity. I'll email you my entry tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again!
Susan
LOL! Was that because of my entry?? LOL!!! I had such a hard time deciding which part of the scene to cut, the beginning or the end..... Both had some lines that I really liked!!
ReplyDeleteAww, now you tell me! Although I didn't submit a complete scene by any means - it's missing the beginning, the ending and a good chunk of the middle. :-\
ReplyDeleteOut of interest, how many entries have you received so far? How many finalists are you going to have, or will that depend on the quality of the entries received?
Susan: Looking forward to reading your work.
ReplyDeleteStephanie: I haven't read any of the entries yet, so don't stress. LOL I've received quite a few e-mails with questions that led me to feel I should address this on my blog.
Ruth: I still only want a one page entry, so you wouldn't have been able to keep all that extra stuff in there anyway. Maybe I should make that more clear in my post.
I've received enough entries to make the competition interesting and there's still another day to go.
How many finalists? That's hard to say until I read the entries. There are, however, only three open spots for the critique group.
Good luck everyone!

This is fun but I think I sent my entry in too early… way too much time to think and to fret about choosing the wrong page! Being an introverted stuck out in the boonies in the north-country ranch wife who has ZERO experience with blogs - I’m finding this interesting and I must say it is really heartening to know that I’m not the only one out here looking for an online critique group or partner. Good luck fellow entrants and many thanks to Lynnette for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteFYI – I finally found a way to take my mind off the contest – I’m tackling my synopsis. I truly hate the process and I seriously think that it may take longer to write than the MS did. Next time, I swear, I will definitely, probably…maybe write the synopsis before the book. Is this too long? I have no idea what the etiquette is for blogging! Actually my spell checker is telling me that I don’t actually even know how to spell blogging….
Strange Fiction: What's your name? I don't think I have your entry.

Yeah, I realise it still has to be a one-page entry. I just did my utmost to find a scene that almost fit on one page, whereas I probably could have just taken the beginning page of a longer scene. :)
ReplyDeleteWord ver: vilerin - what I'm afraid people will of think my writing. ;)
Ruth (and others): I'll post this tomorrow, but just to give you a heads up, I'm allowing those who've already submitted to resubmit because of the hints given and just to be fair. More details tomorrow.
