What's Your Theme?

What’s a theme? It’s the "big picture" issue you tend to deal with over and over again: trust, friendship, loyalty, family relationships, and the list goes on.

Chances are, if you’ve written or plotted out more than one book, some themes keep coming back. We naturally gravitate toward certain issues. Think about the themes you’ve used. Are there certain subjects that take over your manuscripts?

Mine are: (in no particular order)

-Things are rarely what they seem.- Prosperity comes more from love than money.- Let go of the past and live in the now.- Trust your heart to guide you.- The ability to trust = the ability to love (You can't love without trust.)

What are your favorite themes?

  4. You know, I recently discovered a new author that I really connect with, Christine Lynxwiler. In the past 2 weeks I've finished three of her books, and by the time I finished book three, it dawned on me why I like her so much. Her main characters are always women trying to overcome something in their past. That theme really hits home. It got me thinking about why I choose to create the characters that I do...it's a fascinating thought process, isn't it?

  5. I share with you the theme of things rarely being what they seem. Another one is love in all its forms.

  6. I was just thinking about this. I seem to be stuck in a "external beauty really means very little in the grand scheme of things" rut. I need to get off that theme!

  7. Hmm. People deserve a second chance. Your past does not have to dictate your future. Humor can get you through a lot of tough situations. And something about love since romance is always a central part of my stories, but I can't think of what the theme is with regards to that.
