Writing software. I’d never even heard of it, but there are some interesting programs out there. Recently, someone told me about Dramatica Pro. Apparently, it’s been reviewed as being the best program for writers. Have you heard of it?
Do you use writing software? Have you heard of any others? Are they worth the money? Do they actually help you write your story? If yes, how?

Ywriter is my favorite because it's FREE. It has a lot of options to use, and the more I use it, the more I love it!

There's a pen that stores what you hand-write and then translates it into Word - that's the one I need!!
ReplyDeleteI don't use software myself, but I've found the concept to be an interesting one. I think if I ever ran into a severe case of writer's block I'd check it out.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit old fashioned. I use word. I've been tempted in the past to try out other pieces of software, but never given in. Are you going to try Dramatica? If you do, let us know how it works for you.
ReplyDeleteWriting software? Seriously, haven't heard of it. What are it's benefits?
ReplyDeleteI use Microsoft word. I have never heard of writing software?
ReplyDeleteI adore yWriter (linked by the first commenter). You write your novel into chapters and scenes from the start, so not only does it organize everything for you, but it makes editing much easier when moving scenes around between chapters (drag and drop). You can name your scenes, so if you need to edit a particular spot there's no scrolling through one long document to find it, and you can keep track of your character bios and a host of other things in the same document too. Easy to refer to as you're writing.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you can have the scene/chapter notes create a sort of "instant synopsis" for you, outlines, etc...it's very robust, and all for free. I don't write in anything else anymore - everything I do is in yWriter.
I know I sound like a commercial, but I have no stake in the program at all. I just love it that much. LOL
I don't use writing software. From brain to Word, via my fingers.
ReplyDeletei agree withe Carol Kilgore. just brain, fingers and word.
ReplyDeletei've given you a blog award. you can find the details here: http://michellegregory.blogspot.com/2009/12/honest-scrap-award.html
I use Dramatica Pro, it is a great piece of software to help me structure my stories and helps me work out the relationships of my characters. The story engine is awesome! I recommend it, if your haven't checked it out, you are spinning your wheels more than you should.
ReplyDeletescribvner rocks
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for your comments about writing software. I've only started to check into this, so I don't have anything to report. However, I'm excited to research the software options you've suggested. Thanks.

P.S. Thanks, Michelle, for the award. I've already received this one, so I can't accept it, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the gift. If you'd like to read my answers to the Honest Scrap Award, check out my archived blog awards. Thanks again.
I use character keeper, it is so good for storing info, especially if writing a series of books. I use word to write, but am looking at ywriter as I have heard so much about it.
ReplyDeleteI've looked into many writing softwares but never stayed with any after the trial. I tried yWriter but felt uncomfortable with the fact that my thoughts were in this program and the only way to access them was through that program. Sounds dumb I know.
ReplyDeleteThe pen sounds very interesting.
I looked into Liquid Story Binder during Nano, but never really tried it. Anyone us this?
At the moment, it's me and Word.
