Julie Anne Nelson blogged about her agent crush today, which is ironic because I was thinking about mine this morning. Well, not a crush-crush, but you know…
I’ve met one agent in my life and was enchanted. Heck, my husband heard her speak and even he (the non-writer type) was impressed. To boot, one of my writer friends recently signed with her and said she’s wonderful. *sigh*
Unfortunately, rumor has it she may be closing the submission door. Hopefully, this isn’t true. I noticed her interests have changed and am not sure she’s still into romantic suspense. Not that it matters at this point since I have yet to finish this novel and the r/s before it shall remain under the bed beside the first version of this book and my YA series.
Now, the whole situation wouldn’t be as devastating if I could meet more agents. Certainly, there are others out there who I’d love to have as a co-pilot to my writing career. I just haven’t learned about them yet. Still, nothing beats meeting agents in person. Although, a blog is a great second.
What about you? Do you have an agent crush? If you have an agent, were you crushing on him/her before you signed? How often do you think writers actually acquire their dream agent?

I too have crushed on an agent. Supportive comments are the food for crushes, I believe. I'm currently wrapping up revisions that she suggested. Then I guess we'll see. I hope you sign with your dream agent soon!
ReplyDeleteThere are a few agents I would love to have represent me, because I like what I've seen through blogs and interviews. I think you're right though. There's just something about that physical connection that the Internet can't replace.
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few agent crushes acquired strictly through reading their blogs! I'm terrified to think how much worse my crushes would be if I had actually met them in person! Yikes! I too would be devastated...
ReplyDeleteHi Lynnette,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one falling in crush with agents. How I see the crush process is this: it's a harmless way to feel more like you're sending out your work to real people, and just like with dating, the beginning phase is all about possibility. And it's the possibility of this or that agent being the "one" that really gets us jazzed. But my personal philosophy is that we will get the right agent for us, not the one we might think is right. Things just happen for a reason and if we're open to that, then we get to keep growing.
Thanks again for stopping by my blog, and I'm excited to have found yours!
I was agent crazy. I crushed all of them. At once. But then I stopped when I realized they are real people, with real opinions, and not all of them are ones I would agree with. Stopped me cold. Honestly, I really thought they were all knowing, knew the book business inside and out, and loved books.
ReplyDeleteOkay. Mine does. And she crushes back.
Jill Marr, mega awesome.
I know of the most awesomely cool agent in the universe. I'd love to tell her, "I pick you." But we know it doesn't work that way. Shoot!
ReplyDeleteIn the real world it never works out that way. I'm sure I will get a great agent, but probably not her. To be continued...
Thanks for the visit and follow. I thought I was following you. Well, I am now anyway. =)
I've had a few crushes. And, amazingly, the agent who I had the biggest crush on (think nerdy girl crushing on the star quarterback) is the one I was amazingly lucky enough to sign with!! Talk about dreams come true!
ReplyDeleteLynette,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog today. I love your post...I, too, am crushing on a few agents. I've only queried one agent, he sent me a personal rejection with a wonderful suggestion. I still adore him, but am moving forward. I've been researching agents for about a month....I'm looking for an agent that has the right "voice" for me. :)
Never crushed on an agent, I'm afraid, although I've met a couple I'd like to smack up the side of the head. LOL
ReplyDeleteI have a couple agents that I adore too. I even have Google alerts put on them so that when they do interviews and what not I'll know about it. And usually I'm opposed to the dark sinister stalking with Google alerts. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog today. It's great to "meet" you!
I have a crush on an agent who does not accept romance of any kind. And I think I like him because he's so avidly against what I write. I'm one of those "only want what I can't have" types, I guess... but I'm like Jackee, I often look for articles or interviews on him, because I just think he's brilliant.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog!
For heaven's sake Lynnette, which agent is your crush???
ReplyDeleteI have lots of crushes but none on agents. I guess I need to get busy:)
ReplyDeleteive had several - mine included :)
ReplyDeleteHey, there's an award for you on my blog =)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see I'm not the only one crushing on an agent. However, the identity of said agent will remain a secret. hehehe
ReplyDeleteThanks for the award, Natalie.
