The Help Contest

My crit group and I are discussing possible changes to our format. At the moment, everyone is responsible for one crit a week (20 pages) minimum. There are five of us, so that means it would take a month before everyone would get through the first submission. If the book is 400 pages, it’ll take about a year and a half before we’d get through it. That’s too long. Most people want to edit, polish, and submit soon after they complete it. So, we’re trying to come up with a solution while still staying together as a group and not demanding more work of everyone.

Heck, why not make a contest out of it? If we use your idea (and it’s not one of the two I’ve already discussed with my group), I’ll send you a book, one from my personal library. You can choose. But you have to win first, so get those ideas in. You can post them here or send them to me at: lynnette_labelle at hotmail dot com. Make sure you spell my name correctly or I won’t get it. Put “The Help Contest” in the subject, so I know it’s safe to open.

Contest deadline is Friday, June 25, 2010 at midnight.

Good luck and thanks for the help. Members of Rumored Romantics may not enter this contest. ;)

  2. In our group, though it is larger at 16, there is the rule of for each chapter you want critiqued, you need to critique three first. It is amazing how quickly things move. We don't have a time limit of how much you have to do in a week because sometimes it is impossible and then other times I have plenty of time. I think I critiqued about 12 chapters between Friday and Sunday night. But, I wasn't able to critique anything in May. Just a thought.

  5. Thanks everyone. We're still open to suggestions, but so far, it looks like we're going to stick to our present format.
